I recently came a cross a wonderful sermon on parenting by Darrin Patrick from The Journey in St. Louis. The sermon, titled “How to teach your children about God” was both convicting and encouraging. A few highlights for me, in point form of course…

1. Discipline attitude not just action.

2. Our kids will learn more from what we are excited about than what we teach them.

3. Don’t worry that you’re children rarely listen to you, worry that they’re always watching.

4. Avoid the “mini pulpit” mentality.

To my shame, I have found myself lately, more captured by my eldest son’s goaltending performance than his pursuit of the Savior, his love for his parents and siblings and other behavioral short comings. Of course I want to celebrate achievements, but perspective is key. A resource I’ve used in the past, and will use again and again is a great series by C.J. Mahaney entitled “Don’t Waste Your Sports.”

Here’s some info and a link from SGM, and incase you wondered? G.A.A. means “goals against average”, it’s a goalie term…
